PVFD Mourns Loss of Former Chief and Life Member
Don Boatwright

It is with great sadness that Pineville Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue announces the passing of Life Member Don Boatwright. Don was a member of our department for close to fifty years. Don served as Fire Chief for many years. Don has also served as President, Vice President, and Board Member and was awarded Firefighter of the Year and the Distinguished Service Award by the Mecklenburg County Fireman’s Association.

Don was a truly dedicated and faithful member of our department. His volunteer work ethic for our department set an example for others to follow. He was a very active part of the department through the seventies and eighties and was influential in progress of the department. Through the past few years Don and his wife Libby have been the go-to members for many projects and often donated their time and money to prepare meals for the firefighters and fund raising events.

Don was a father, husband, mentor, leader, teacher, friend, and hard worker. He had a true passion for the fire service and the citizens of Pineville. Most of all, Don was family. For many years we called Don “Paw Paw” and he accepted that title with pride. We all loved him. He will be sorely missed.
